アッヴィ合同会社：Week Of Possibilities

6月3日（月)から14日（金）まで、アッヴィ合同会社の社会貢献活動「Week Of Possibilities」が開催されました。ハンズオン東京が、このイベントのお手伝いをさせていただくのは、今年で５年目となります。

東京都内では、複数の児童養護施設の子どもたちと一緒に、自立支援の一環として、子どもたちに科学に興味を持ってもらうためにSTEM（"Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics" 科学・技術・工学・数学）教育のアクティビティ「きみも科学者！アッヴィ１日科学教室」を行いました。また、全国のドナルド・マクドナルド・ハウス、計10か所で、清掃活動や利用者様のために食事作り等のボランティア活動を行いました。名古屋では介助犬協会の訓練センターで介助犬の必要性に関して理解を深める目的でセンター内で清掃活動を行いました。

ハンズオン東京のボランティア活動にご参加いただいた120名のアッヴィ合同会社の皆様に感謝申し上げます。また、ポインツ・オブ・ライト・ネットワークの傘下にて、世界中で8,000人以上のアッヴィ・ボランティアが一斉に活動する大イベントの企画に携わることができ、大変嬉しく思います。

■Corporate Volunteer Program
AbbVie GK: Week Of Possibilities

For the fifth year in a row, we were fortunate to be able to support AbbVie Japan oduring their "Week Of Possibilities" (June 3rd-14th) to engage employees to participate in exciting volunteer opportunities.

AbbVie Japan Volunteers held a STEM activity “You are a scientist too! AbbVie’s one day science class” with several children’s homes in Tokyo. This is one of the most exciting activities for our vulnerable children which not only helps raise their interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) but also contributes to developing their life skills. AbbVie Japan Volunteers were also engaged in volunteering activities at Ronald McDonald's House Charities in ten different locations all over Japan, where they helped by cleaning and preparing meals for the residents. In addition, AbbVie Japan Volunteers in Nagoya volunteered at the training center of the Service Dog Association, which trains and provides service dogs to people with physical disabilities.

Hands On Tokyo expresses our deepest gratitude to AbbVie for their continued partnership, and is grateful to be a part of the Points of Light network, for launching this worldwide program #weekofpossibilities #Abbviegivesback. This program engages over 8,000 volunteers all over the world, including 120 volunteers in Japan.

■特別養護老人ホーム麻布慶福苑ガーデニングプロジェクト

6月5日(水)に特別養護老人ホーム麻布慶福苑でガーデニングプロジェクトを行いました。今回は麻布慶福苑の庭園で、お花の植え替え作業をしました。利用者の皆さんに、楽しんでいただけますように！

■Gardening Project at Azabu Keifukuen Nursing Home

Hands On Tokyo organized a Gardening Project at the Azabu Keifukuen Nursing Home on Wednesday, June 5th. Our volunteers replanted flowers in flower pots located in the garden at Azabu Keifukuen. We hope the residents can enjoy these beautiful flowers!

■Sign Language Cafe Project

6月8日(土) にハンズオン東京のオフィスにて「Sign Language Cafe Project」を開催しました。このプロジェクトでは、手話でのあいさつや「あいうえお」、LIVES TOKYOのテーマ曲、「Happy now」を手話で歌う練習をしています。

■Sign Language Cafe Project

On Saturday, June 8th, Hands On Tokyo organized a "Sign Language Cafe Project.” For this project, we learned basic greetings and ”A-I-U-E-O” in sign language. We also enjoyed learning how to sing in sign language the theme song, “Happy Now,” for our LIVES TOKYO event.

■アメリカ体操チーム合宿のお手伝い

6月21日（金）、22日（土）、ハンズオン東京のボランティアは、千葉県船橋市で行われたアメリカ男子体操チームの、東京2020オリンピックに向けた事前合宿の一般公開で、誘導のお手伝いをしました。参加してくださったボランティアの皆さん、どうもありがとうございました！

■Guide Volunteers at US National Gymnastics Team’s Camp

On Friday, June 21st, and Saturday, June 22nd, Hands On Tokyo Volunteers helped the participants at the U.S. Men’s National Gymnastics Team’s Camp for Tokyo 2020, in Funabashi. Thank you to all our great volunteers!

どのようなきっかけでボランティアを始めましたか？
「東京でボランティアの機会を探していたところ、ポートランドにいる親友がハンズオン東京を教えてくれました。早速メンバーになり、色々なプログラムに参加しました。その中でもMDPを気に入り、毎回参加するようになりました。そしてボランティアリーダーになり、今年で7年目になります」

How did you start volunteering?
"I learned about Hands On Tokyo through my best friend in Portland, when I was looking for volunteer opportunities in Tokyo. I participated in a variety of programs, and I found the Motor Development Program (“MDP”) to be the most suitable program for me, so I kept going. Soon after, I became a volunteer leader (“VL”) for MDP, and it’s been six years since."

一番印象に残っているボランティア活動は何ですか？
「幾つかあります……ブラインンドジョギング、KOKOクラブ英会話＆ブラインドテニス、そしてもちろんMDPです。どのプログラムについても一貫して言えることは、受益者から本質的な自分に気づかせてもらうことです。MDPのVLでいられることは、社会人とは別の役割において利他でいられる貴重な場であります。自分を誇れる場所は、他にどんな場所があるでしょうか？」

What volunteering experience stuck with you the most and why?
"Here is my list: Blind-Jogging, Koko-Club activities and MDP. They help me to realize the essence of many things, including the essence of myself. Visually-Impaired participants see more than I see. Mentally handicapped kid athletes have crystal hearts that reflect and cleanse mine. I remember a TED-talk speaker who said, “Vulnerability is a birthplace of Connection, Courage and Compassion.”, and MDP is where I experience this. All participants are very humble, and it helps me to look at myself. The programs have been wake-up calls for my numbed senses."

ボランティア活動をしていくことで将来どのようになりたいですか？
「MDPのVLとして、ビジョンを持っています。違うバックグランド＆個性を持った人たちが互いに高め合える社会に日本がなることを思い描いてます。障がいを含む、違いが個性となる社会になるために、MDPがそんな環境への自然な入り口でありたいと思っています。ボランティア参加者が日常性活に戻った時に、アンバサダーとなり、MDP-ismを自然と拡げてくれると信じています。彼らが日本の社会に良い影響を与えてくれることを目指しています。ゆっくりと、広く、そして長く影響を与え、より良い日本に変えたいと思っています」

What do you hope to accomplish through volunteering?
"As a VL for MDP, I have a vision…I would like MDP to be the fountain, to produce “ambassadors” to society, and to close the gaps amongst different cultures. I would like to develop MDP to be an entry to an ecosystem. The strengths of the HOT volunteers are “a melting pot of different backgrounds”. MDP embraces different culture types. It is a good influence on Japan’s homogeneous society. With gradual rippled effect, I want to change Japan."
